Obituary of George Mason Walker

Capt. George M. Walker, 82, of Ft. McCoy, died Saturday, January 22, 2011, at Tuscany Hospice House. A native of Jacksonville, he lived most of his life in Putnam and Marion County. He served his country in both the US Navy and the Merchant Marine. He also served for 15 years as a Ships Pilot in the Panama Canal. Capt. Walker was a member of First Baptist Church of Orange Springs. For many years he twice weekly could be found walking the Right to Life Abortion Line in Ocala. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the International Organization of Masters, Mates and Pilots Association. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Ruth Walker of Ft. McCoy; daughters Becky (Steve) Williams of Albany, GA, Jinky (Ed) Hicks, Colleyville, TX, Cameron (Brock) Hill, Bitsey (Michael) Simmons, Jacksonville, FL; step-daughter Mary (Richard) Dixon, Ormond Beach, FL; step-sons Ronnie McKenzie, Norwich, CT and Greg McKenzie, Estero, FL; brother James Lyons, Green Cove Springs, FL; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Noda M. Walker. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Marion County, Tuscany House, PO Box 4860, Ocala, FL 34478.
