Obituary of Gary Earl Sams
Ocala - Gary Earl Sams, 59, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011. He was born in Miami and moved to Ocala in 1996 from New Orleans. He was a law enforcement officer for 37 years and recently retired as a highly decorated Special Agent for DEA after a long and distinguished career. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and loved being with his family and his fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing poker. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lorraine of Ocala, his loving daughter, Kim Daugherty and husband Richard of Sandy Hook, MS, his loving son Matt Sams and wife Suzanne of Ocala, his loving grandsons, Andrew, Conner and Hunter Daugherty, his sisters, Nikki Crawford and husband Tim of TX and Sharon Hatton and husband Rob of Dunnellon, his aunts, Theresa Radler and husband Robert of Albany, NY and Mildred Trollinger and husband Robert of NJ, his sister-in-law, Fredricka Young of Dunnellon and a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many law enforcement brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton Earl and Gloria Capella Sams. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM. Entombment will be at Highland Memorial Park with full law enforcement honors.
