Obituary of Edwin Luther Crenshaw

CRENSHAW, Edwin Luther Edwin Luther Crenshaw, 92, of Ocala, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 2, 2011, at the Ocala Health & Rehab Center. Luther was born on May 31, 1918 in Pelzer SC. After working for the Piedmont & Northern Railroad in Greenville, SC for several years and becoming a husband and father of three sons, he moved his family to Ocala in 1959. Luther then opened his own refrigeration, air conditioning and electrical repair business. He later became the Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Ocala, and retired from that position after 20 years of service. He was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala where he was a Deacon for Life and adult Sunday School teacher, in addition to being on the building committee for the present day church facilities on Maricamp Road. He was also a WWII veteran proudly serving in the US Navy. He was a Total Life Member of Shriners, and 33 degree Scottish Rite member of Marion Dunn Lodge #19, Ocala. Luther was preceded in death by his wife Helen Crenshaw and Addie Hightower Crenshaw, one son Lewis Crenshaw and 1 great grandchild. He is survived by 2 sons: Larry (Gwen) Crenshaw, Ocala, and Carl (Linda) Crenshaw, Ocala, 2 stepsons: Charles (Doris) Hightower, San Diego, CA, Tom (Annette) Hightower, Summerfield, 1 niece, 1 nephew, 14 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 2801 SE Maricamp Road, Ocala, with Dr. Phillip E. Hanes officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 5740 S. Pine Ave., Ocala. If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 3800 St. Johns Bluff Road South, Jacksonville, FL 32224. Arrangements are by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala.
