Obituary of Anna Schallon

Anna (Kitty) Schallon, Age 82 Died suddenly Thursday, March 10, 2011 of natural causes at her home in Florida. Born in Bethesda, Maryland, she lived most of her life in Rockville, Maryland before moving with her husband to The Villages in Florida in 1996. Mrs. Schallon was musically and athletically gifted. As a teenager, she played the banjo-uke, sang and performed locally with her family band. When she was 16, a nationally-known Big Band had open tryouts for singers in Washington D.C. They loved her voice and were ready to hire her until they found out she wasn't at least 18. In high school she was a cheerleader and the starting guard on the girls' varsity basketball team. Appearing on a local TV show "Bowling for Dollars," Kitty was the returning champion for a number of weeks. She loved dancing, her life in Florida, and most of all her children and grandchildren. She is survived by a daughter Tami L. Schallon; sons R. Scott and Steven P. Schallon (and his wife Carol A); two grandsons Jason P. and Ryan K. Schallon; plus her husband of 60 years who passed in 2008 and her youngest son Michael K. in 2006. Services were held Saturday, March 19 at Pumphrey's Colonial Funeral Home, Salisbury, MD.
