Obituary of Algie DeVane
Mrs. Algie Nora Byrd DeVane, 97, of Ocala, died Friday, April 22, 2011, at Hawthorne Village. A native of Live Oak, FL, she moved to Ocala in 1937, coming here from Tampa. Mrs. DeVane was a plant propagator for Kingswood Nurseries where she practiced her love of gardening and growing plants for many years. Many of the plants and trees around Ocala were rooted by her. The Red Byrd Viburnum was named after her. Mrs. DeVane was a Southern Baptist, and a member of The Vine Community Church. Survivors include her son Harold (Gwen) DeVane, daughters Linda (Carl) Crenshaw and Joe Ellen Rowe, sisters Alice Crowley, Audrey Higgins, Lena Mae McGinty and Genevieve Carter, as well as 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. DeVane will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 25, 2011 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Dr. Edward D. Johnson and Pastor Eulie Brookins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until service time.
