Obituary of Susan M. Lottes

Susan M. Lottes, age 64, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at her home in The Villages, Florida. She was born in Washington, Indiana, on August 25, 1946, to Ray Eaton and Maxine Steier Eaton. Susan and her husband, Ronald Lottes, were happily married for over 43 years. Her husband and children were a great source of pride and her grandchildren gave her boundless joy. Susan was a 1964 graduate of Washington (Indiana) High School, a 1968 graduate of Indiana University, a Registered Nurse and, for over twenty years, taught nursing as a nursing instructor. Following her retirement, she was a devoted volunteer with several charitable organizations, including, but not limited to, The Carolina Raptor Center and the Des Moines Zoo. She was a very active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood organization in North Carolina, Iowa, and Florida. She served as a founding member and the first President of the P.E.O. Sisterhood International's Chapter "IF" in The Villages, FL. She was deeply committed to P.E.O.'s mission to educate, advance and promote women through scholarships, grants and stewardship of Cottey College in Nevada, MO. In addition to her involvement with P.E.O. activities, she loved spending time with her family and her dogs, reading, entertaining, playing bridge, traveling when able, and collecting pelicans. In addition to being survived by her husband, Susan is survived by her children, Kevin R. Lottes (Lisa) of Naples, FL, Michael W. Lottes (Amy) of Henderson, NV, Michele Tolbert (Alan) of Salisbury, NC. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Taylor Woods, Ashley Woods, William Lottes, Amy Lottes, Jason Lottes, and Claire Lottes, as well as her sister Shannon Yeager of Bloomfield, IN and many close friends both within and outside of The Villages. Susan was preceded in death by her twin daughters, Christine and Angela. A gathering to celebrate Susan's life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 6, 2011 in the Chapel at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home, 1511 Buenos Aires Blvd, The Villages, FL. There will also be a memorial service at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at North Lake Presbyterian Church in The Villages. Susan's family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed to the Susan Lottes Scholarship, c/o Cottey College, 1000 W Austin, Nevada, MO 64772.
