Obituary of Albert Fred Miller
Albert F. Miller, age 85, of Ocala, FL passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011. He was born in Oneco, FL on December 12, 1925. Mr. Miller was raised in Sarasota, FL. He joined the US Coast Guard and served during WWII between the years of 1942 and 1946 on board the USS Shelliak. He received a letter of Commendation for duty performed in Anzio, Italy. He also received a Commendation from the French Republic for involvement in the liberation of France. He worked as a Firefighter for the City of Sarasota, FL for 28 years retiring as Lieutenant. His hobbies included fishing, gardening and calling Bingo. Mr. Miller was a member of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, Ocala, FL. He was also a life member of DAV #85 of Belleview, FL, American Legion #284 of Belleview, FL and the National Order of Trench Rats. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Lois M. Miller of Ocala, FL; son Richard J. (Kathleen) Miller of Clearwater, FL; granddaughters Stephanie Standiford and Michelle (Dustin) Anderson; great grandchildren Matthew and Kaitlyn Standiford and Benjamin Anderson. A visitation will take place at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL on Monday, May 9, 2011 from 5-7pm. A graveside service with military honors will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 11am. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
