Obituary of Denson Dingler

Mr. Powell Dingler, 73, of Ocala, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. A native of Austin, Texas, he moved to Ocala in 1973, coming here from Atlanta, GA. Powell was very well known for his many civic involvements. He was a member of the Ocala/Marion County Chamber of Commerce; a member of the City of Ocala Golf Board; he worked as a ranger at the Ocala Municipal Golf Course; a member of the Florida Police Golf Association; a member of Ocala Elks Lodge #286; and was known by many as a dance instructor, both Western as well as Ballroom, and was a champion water skier. Powell was a proud Texas Longhorn, having graduated with a BA from the University of Texas, where he played football for the legendary coach Darrell Royal. While at UT, he was also on the track and field team, the swim and diving teams, and belonged to the university chorus. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sandy Dingler, his son Rev. Denny Dingler, daughter Debbie "Debo" Dingler, step-son Doug Watson, brother Paul Dingler, and his grandson Joshua Dingler. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 2801 E. Maricamp Road, Ocala, with Rev. Ted Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Park. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends from 2PM until service time. At the family's request, friends may make contributions to their favorite charity.
