Obituary of Jack Clifford Simler

Belleview - Jack C. Simler of Belleview Fla and Philipsburg Pa., passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:15 am on at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. He was born on July 23, 1933 in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Ernest U. and Stella (Mollica) Simler. He is survived by his wife Constance Simler, children Susan Roberts of Belleview, Fla., Cheryl Corman of New Port Richey, Fla., Timothy Hemphill of New Port Richey, Fla., his brother James Simler of Philipsburg Pa, Grandchildren Corissa Plazarin, Ashley Myer, Joshua Corman, Kelly Walter, Angelina Jacobsen, Ericka Hemphill, Christopher Todd Bainey, Patrick Ricky Hemphill, Amber Conklin, seven nieces and nephews, and nine great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by both his parents Ernest and Stella Simler, brother Ernest (Chap) Simler, son Patrick Hemphill and grandson Brandt Hemphill. A graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School, Mr. Simler entered into service in the US Navy in 1953 where he served aboard the USS Currituck and USS Worcester until he was honorably discharged in 1957. During his service he received the National Defense, Good Conduct and Navy Occupation (Europe) Awards. Jack was a member of the Pennsylvania State Police and also worked for 22 years at the State Correctional Institution at Rockview Penitentiary, Bellefonte, Pennsylvania where he retired and moved to Belleview, Florida. He then worked as a Security Officer at Lockheed Martin- Ocala Division where he fully retired. He was Catholic by faith. Jack was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. "Go Like A Champion Jack" Military graveside services will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on Tuesday, May 31st at 11:00 am.
