Obituary of James K. Pope
James K. Pope was born in 1936 in Hitchin's Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his Father James H. Pope and Mother Elsie Pope Dethloff.He is survived by his wife of 46 year's Dorette S Pope, and five daughters. Dawn Pope Easterling of Grayson Ky. Shawn Pope Lewis of Grayson Ky.Natalie Pope Weiberg-Ahlersmeyer ( Bradley) of Ruskin, Fl.Janet Jones Bazini (John) of The Villages, Fl. Carolyn Jones Hutchins ( Charles) of Keystone Heights, Fl. He is survived by 13 Grandchildren17 Great Grandchildren with his next due in early December.Survived by his three Sister's Brenda Linville,Darlene Dehart, Charlene Rice, all of whom reside in Kentucky.
At 18 Jim hired on at Ashland Oil Company , in Ashland Ky. That step led him into his Love for Racing. Jim was a Pit Crew Member of A. J. Foyt's race crew. He traveled to various venues working the races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway 500, The Hoosier Hundred's, Pocono, Phoenix, California, Milwaukee and Numerous others. He is mentioned in some of his Books, and received numerous awards for Pit Stop competetions,pole positions and of course the Championship Winners Circle Ring.
Jim hired on at Peerless Pump in 1968 working in the test lab. Promoted to field service in 1971, He traveled extensively installing pumps at such places as the Panama Canal, Nasa for the space shuttle,Buenos Aires, Equador, Bolivia, Columbia, Paraguay, Venezuela, Rio De Janeeiro, Spain Morocco, Amsterdam,Rome, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Persian Gulf, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait,Afganistan, Calcutta India, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore, Borneo, Alaska, Hawaii.He transferred to California Operations in October of 1977 and retired in 2007 as the Field Service Supervisor for their Western Operations.
He was a Member of the Elks and enjoyed traveling in his motor home, traveling internationally, open wheel and Nascar Racing,Reading, Music,and Watching L. A. Lakers , and USC Trojans.
Heirs-Baxley are Handling arrangements and there will be a Celebration of Life Memorial Hosted By the Family in the Spring.
