Obituary of Betty Newell Lyons

Lyons, Lt. Col. Betty, 80 Lt. Colonel Betty (Newell) Lyons died peacefully in her sleep in her room late Saturday afternoon November 26, 2011 at Emeritus West Assisted Living Facility. She was born on April 26, 1931 in Scranton, a daughter of David C. and Freeda (Dolby) Newell and was raised in Oil City, PA until leaving there for The Salvation Army Seminary in the Bronx, NY. Ordained in 1952, she married a classmate, Ronald R. Lyons on October 8, 1954. She is predeceased by her husband and son, Bob, as well as her parents. She leaves behind her daughter, Linda L. Brown of Florence, KY; two sisters, May Lou (Newell) Marshall & Major Viola Newell of Ocala and a brother, David V. Newell of Strongsville, OH as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins and two uncles. At her request, Funeral Services are not planned. Instead there will be a Service of Celebration of Life at the Ocala Salvation Army at a later date. Her cremains will be inurned in the Salvation Army Section at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. The family has requested that donations be sent "in memoriam" to benefit The Salvation Army Homeless Shelter in Ocala. Arrangements are in charge of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services at TimberRidge
