Obituary of Dominic Mauro Mollica
Dominic Mauro Mollica, 88, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born June 26, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Caesar and Angelina Mollica.
He served in the United States Army. After the Army, Dominic pursued a career as an Accomplished Jazz Musician that spanned several decades. During his time as a musician, he played clubs all over the states and in clubs in Las Vegas. Also, his Jazz Career took him to Memphis, where he recorded in the RCA Studios; and, played in clubs in Pittsburgh and South Florida.
After his career as a Jazz Musician, Dominic moved to South Florida; and, found a new career in the Automotive Industry in the 1980’ and 1990’s. He worked in the Service and Parts Departments of several of the major Auto Dealerships in South Florida. Also, was a Top Salesperson in the Industry.
Dominic spent many years working on and riding Motorcycles. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, he owned a Honda Goldwing; and, enjoyed taking many long road trips with Maria, through the Carolinas, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia.
When not working, Dominic enjoyed building and flying Radio-Controlled Airplane; and was an avid and accomplished flyer. He was a member of Radio-Controlled Airplane Clubs in Davie and Ocala, Florida. He was an avid photographer and Ham Radio Operator. His Ham Radio Handle was WD40OFU.
Being from Pittsburgh, Dominic was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, dating back to the days of Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris. Also, enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Penguins; and attended several Pittsburgh Penguin and Florida Panther Hockey games in South Florda with his daughter, Jackie.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Caeser and Angeline Mollica, his Uncle Mauro Mollica, His Aunt Clara Mollica, Sister Mildred (Mollica) Micale, Brother-in-law Joseph Micale, Brother Frank Mollica, and Great-Nephew Marcos Xenankis.
Dominic is survived by his wife Maria Mollica, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Susan Cashman, and daughter, Jackie LaPlante, all of whom reside in Ocala, Florida. Sister-in-law Jo A Hernandez of New Orleans, Louisiana. Sister Gerri (Ken) Smith of Plum Boro, Pennsylvania; Jo Ann Micale of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Cousins Mauro (Christine) Mollica of Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
At the request of the family, there will not be a Public Memorial Service or Celebration of Life. The family will hold a Private Service with immediate family.
