I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved Gene. I have many childhood memories with Gene. His Stingray, his eclectic collection of magazines I was never allowed to look at. (Of course I later learned they were not for children's eyes) lol, many days spent at the pool while he and my Mom coached swimming and diving for OHS/Forest High School. He and my parents were great friends. Gene was such a sweet, loving gentle soul. My mom, dad, and I tried to touch base with whenever we went back home. Once he retired it seemed a little more difficult to pin him down as he was always traveling. I will cherish my memories of Gene and always going to his house with my parents when we lived in the Highlands and he lived 5 blocks away. RIP Gene. Thank you for helping mold the early years of my youth

Coach Cowan was our beloved coach and mentor for the Lake Weir High basketball team of 1962: http://www.sonsofdewittcolony.org/lw62bbscrap1.htm I never knew his first name and if I knew it, I would have never used it out of respect. He was simply "Coach" Cowan. He was known for his unconventional "sit down" technique when we were ahead with a second or two left in the game so as to avoid a serious 1+1 fowl.
