Obituary of Claire M. Bowman

Entered into rest March 13, 2024, Claire M. Bowman was born on March 28, 1935 in Sandersville, Georgia and resided in Washington County until she moved to Augusta, Georgia with her family.

She was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and attended the Barrett School of Nursing at University Hospital. She was employed by two local physicians until her marriage when she moved to Athens, Georgia. While there she was employed by the University of Georgia. She lived in Mobile, Alabama after this and briefly worked at First Baptist Church in Mobile. In 1965 she moved with her family to Ocala, Florida where her husband was Advertising Manager of the new Sears and Robuck store. She worked at First Baptist Church, Ocala and CFCC. In December 2000 she retired after 25 years’ employment at the Marion County Property Appraiser’s Office.

She enjoyed being around her family during the holidays, reading and was creative with sewing, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching.

Claire is preceded in death by her parents Arthur W. and Willie Mae Elkins Minor and her sisters Margaret Hobbs, Carolyn Gade and Mae Toy. 

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jennings B. Bowman, Jr., (Jack), son Bryan and grandson Porter of Raleigh, North Carolina and daughter Andrea of Orlando, Florida and several nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends are invited to a visitation beginning at 12:00 pm and a funeral service at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Florida 34470 with Dr. Ed Johnson officiating.  A burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Ocala, Florida.
