Obituary of Jean E. Clemmons
Jean E. Clemmons, a retired nurse and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away February 8, 2024. Jean was born in Rome, Georgia on October 31, 1929 to Henry Speer Ezzard and Kati Mae Barrer. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Emory University School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia. At Emory, she met her future husband, Ben Clemmons. In 1950, Ben and Jean married and settled down in Citra, Florida, Ben’s hometown. Jean worked as an emergency room nurse at Munroe Memorial Hospital in Ocala.
In 1962, the family moved to El Paso, Texas, when Ben joined the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Jean continued to work as a nurse, joining the public school system as a school nurse before retiring in 1988. She and Ben loved to travel across the United States by car, visiting friends and relatives, and Jean also loved playing bridge with her friends. She was also actively involved in their church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, in El Paso, and served as camp nurse for several summers at Sacramento Methodist Assembly.
Ben and Jean were married for 59 years, until his death in 2010. Jean resided in El Paso until 2019, when she moved to New Braunfels, Texas. Jean is survived by her son, Harmon B. “Chip” Jr. of Dexter, NM, her daughter, Debbie Romero of Bellevue, WA, grandchildren Jenny and Panch (Kiki), honorary granddaughter Celina, great-grandson Ryal, step-great-grandchildren Jack and Jillian, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Citra United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m., just before the service. A burial service will be held at Citra Cemetery immediately following the service.
