I worked with Brandt for a couple years in Boston and we shared some mutual friends from Boston College. We would talk occasionally after he moved to Florida, but eventually lost touch. We all lost a very special person.
Brandt always stood out from the crowd; not that he ever really wanted to blend in! He had tremendous intelligence and put it to use. He was always laughing. In his very Brandt way, he found humor in things that only comes from deep thought and consideration. Whether it was monetary policy, and the mathematical models that supported it, (he loved that stuff) or the silly rituals of dating in our 20s, he always saw through to the absurdity of what others gloss over. I like to think I was a good audience for him and contributor in our discussions.
He always had a strong opinion of what was right and how things should be. In a very admirable way, if not also in a way that carries weight. I always found myself very similar to him in that way and appreciated him for it, but also had hope we could both one day lighten up a bit.
I thought I understood his decision to move to Florida. We spoke about work and politics and all the usual reasons for moving. Now I recognize he may have had more reasons than he let on. I wish we hadn’t lost touch. Thank God he had the loving support of his family that he must have needed during his fight.
Brandt is that sort of person you never really forget. If he had that effect on me, then his memory surely also lives on with very many people.

I met Brandt a few times playing pool in Boston. He was a heck of a player and a nice guy. We lost touch after I moved to the suburbs, but we had loads in common (our love of billiards, both graduates of St. John’s and BC, both with connections to Hopkinton, similar work in data analytics) and as a result I felt a real kinship with Brandt. It was with great shock and dismay that I read about his passing. My sincerest condolences and sympathies to his loved ones at this difficult time. - Kyle

Our hearts are broken for you. We remember when Brandt was born; we remember seeing him working in your office. We remember the extraordinary love you have for your family and your pride in both of your sons’ accomplishments. We are praying that perhaps one day the memories will make you smile, even if just for a moment.
