Obituary of James Henry Stecker

James Henry Stecker, born on February 10, 1946, departed this world on September 13, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and service that will forever be cherished.

Jim was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife, Gail, for 56 wonderful years. Their enduring love was a testament to the strength of their bond, an inspiration for all who had the privilege of witnessing it. Jim and Gail's marriage was blessed with three loving sons: Steve (Beth), Aaron (Janette), and Jason (Samantha), who, alongside their wives, formed a strong family that remained a source of joy and pride throughout Jim's life.

Jim was born to Martin and Laura Stecker in Algona, Iowa, and grew up in a warm and loving family on their family farm in north central Iowa alongside his siblings, Elmer, Cora, Lorraine, Cathy, Rose, Patricia, Duane, Robert, and Marlene. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Elmer and Duane, and sister Cora.

Jim graduated from Iowa State University in 1971 with a degree in construction engineering. Professionally, Jim dedicated most of his career to the success of Stecker-Harmsen, Inc., a construction consulting company he founded with his devoted partner, LeRoy, that they ran together for the past 40 years. Their tireless commitment and entrepreneurial spirit not only built a thriving business but also created lasting bonds of friendship and mutual respect.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim's true passion lay in serving others. He was a man of great faith, generosity and selflessness, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His kindness and compassion touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on his community; his faith a testimony to many throughout his journey.

Jim found immense joy in music and had a voice that could soothe the soul. His love for singing brought happiness to those fortunate enough to hear him perform and peace to many as their journey neared an end.

In his retirement, Jim discovered a new passion at the Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA), where he dedicated his time and energy in serving others through this powerful organization. His commitment to MTRA showcased his enduring spirit of service and rekindled his connection to the farm on which he spent his childhood.

Jim leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his earthly existence, as a devoted grandfather of 11 and a cherished great-grandfather of 9. His wisdom, guidance, and boundless love will continue to guide and inspire his family for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to support the Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA). Jim's dedication to this organization exemplified his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and your contributions will help continue his legacy of service.

James Henry Stecker will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
