Obituary of Gerald Emil Hemmen
Gerald “Jerry” Hemmen, 91, was born in Granville, Iowa to the late Frank and Josephine (Hunt) Hemmen on March 11, 1932. He was a graduate of Fulda High School, Fulda, Minnesota. Jerry passed away on July 21, 2023 at home in Ocala, Florida surrounded by family.
He was married to Thelma Dennis on August 27, 1956. They were loving parents to Stephen and Theresa. Jerry served four years in the Air Force and then 26 years in the Central Intelligence Agency as a communications specialist. He and Thelma were stationed in several overseas posts, including, Cyprus, Philippines, Syria, Finland and Ethiopia, enjoying “various” experiences.
He enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry loved art, drawing, plaster craft, painting, sports, visiting with everyone (never met a stranger) and driving. He is survived by his wife, Thelma, daughter, Theresa, daughter-in-law, Linda, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, five brothers: Marcel (Rosa - deceased), Frank, John (Sharon - deceased), Joseph (Judith) and Michael, sister-in-law, Mary (Derald - deceased) and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his son, Stephen, parents, several brothers, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Jerry will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Monday, July 31 at 8:30 am. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 30 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Hiers-Baxley (9695 SW 110th St., Ocala FL 34481. Burial will follow mass at Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Florida.
