Obituary of Jerome P Churchvara

 Jerome Peter Churchvara left this life on May 12, 2023 with his children by his side.  Jerry was born in Detroit on July 6, 1940, the first of Julia and Peter Churchvara.  Preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann, his parents, brothers Paul and Mark, and cousins Tom and Susan.  He is survived by his cousin Dennis (Tina) Churchvara, his four children; Stephen (Iris) Churchvara, Linda (David) O’Connell, Nancy (Steven) Bernier and Jeffrey (Jacqueline) Churchvara as well as his 6 grandchildren.

Lovingly referred to as Jer or Church, Jerry lived a life of meaning through his years in Jesuit schooling at University of Detroit High School and Seminary and going on to earn a business degree at The University of Detroit. 

Jerry met his wife at age 17, married on July 7, 1962 and had four children.  Committed to the love of his life until her passing on October 14, 2022, Jerry and Judy’s marriage was an example of unconditional love and respect built on and centered around God.

Jerry’s career of nearly 40 years at General Motors / Cadillac took his family from Michigan to Pennsylvania.  He was widely respected by co-workers and clients and made many lasting friendships.  Jerry and Judy moved to The Villages, FL in 1999, putting down roots and calling it home.  As an avid golfer and tireless supporter of St. Timothy’s and The St. Vincent de Paul Society, Jerry continued to make friends who supported him through the difficulties of this past year.  His gift of gab was more a gift to listen and be a caring and loyal friend and brother, dependable father and doting grandfather. 

Never a man out to impress or boast, Jerry was rich in his faith from an early age.  His love of the Lord anchored his marriage, provided guidance as a parent and allowed him to live a life of peace and love.  He truly impacted those around him and though the loss of his presence is felt on earth, Jerry is forever rejoicing with his family who went before him. He has met Peter at the gates and is no doubt with his wife, celebrating their 61st anniversary in the glorious presence of God.

Jerry will be remembered at the 8:30am mass at St. Timothy Catholic Church in The Villages, FL on Friday, July 7, with a memorial  service to follow at 10:00 am at Hiers-Baxley in The Villages FL.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL 32159.
