Obituary of Bernard Walt
Bernard Walt Ocala FL Bernard Walt 99 died unexpectedly January 22nd, 2023, from complications of pneumonia from pneumonia. He was born January 12th, 1924, in New York NY of Raphael and Goldie Walt graduated high school. Bernard served in the United States army during World War Two as an amphibian engineer with the 333rd Transportation Corps Harbor Craft Co. providing support to D-Day combatants in the 3rd Army in Normandy and Northern France. After the war he married Evelyn Smith on June 30th, 1951. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to her death in 2011. Bernard is also preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Walt Bernard is survived by sister Ruth Katz of New York, NY; his son Martin Walt and his wife Imelda of Huntsville AL; his son Steven Walt of Ocala FL; his granddaughter Rachel Walt of San Diego CA and his grandson Lemuel Walt of Greenville SC and many nieces’ nephews and cousins. Bernard had been an active member of the Marion Oaks volunteer neighborhood watch (MOVE) for many years and was active with the Marion County Emergency Management team (MERT). He volunteered as a bailiff with the county court system and was a member of the Beth Shalom Jewish temple. There will be a viewing from three to five in the afternoon on February 1st at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home in Ocala Funeral services will be held at the Timber Ridge Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home with the burial being held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell FL February 2nd at 12:30PM.
