Obituary of Roger Peter Sabatino
Roger P. Sabatino, 81, of Ocala, Fla., passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Joanne M. Sabatino, together they had 7 children, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Roger leaves behind his second wife, Iris Kerr Sabatino; his children, Anna Marie (Wes) Peterson, Terri Sabatino, Stephen (Cheryl) Sabatino, Cathy (Chris) Morgan, Barbara (Kevin) Turner, Carolyn (Joseph) Suranni, and Tina Breton, along with his brothers, Jack (Judy) Sabatino of North Carolina, James Sabatino; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was born May 16, 1941, in Albion, N.Y., to the late Jacob and Christine Sabatino. He was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Batavia and then went on to raise his family together with Joanne, in East Bethany, NY, where he was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish, as well as a scout master for more than twelve years. He and Joanne moved to Belleview, Fla., in 1994. He worked as head custodian of St. Timothy’s Catholic Church in The Villages, Fla., until his retirement in 2006
.
He enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with his family. Roger was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and was a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala, Fla.
Roger will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but we are all comforted in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his wife, whom he dearly loved.
He will be laid to rest in Batavia, N.Y., at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. At his request, there will be no visitation or memorial services held. There will be a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s church, Resurrection Parish, in Batavia, N.Y., on Saturday, December 3rd at 10 am followed by the internment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Belleview-Santos Elementary School, 9600 US 441 S, Belleview, FL 34420 for the media center to purchase new books so future generations can share Roger’s love of reading.
