Obituary of Monica G. Lackey Harper
Monica G. Lackey Harper, 66, of Ocala, Florida, passed away on November 5, 2022, at the home she shared with her loving husband, Michael Harper. The two shared 24 years of love and happiness and were married for 12 years.
Monica was born April 9th, 1956, in Martin Kentucky, the second daughter of the late Alford Lackey and Minnie Louise Johnson.
She was a 1974 graduate of Lakeland High School in Lagrange, Indiana.
Monica had two children whom she loved dearly, a son Justin and a daughter Jessie.
Monica attended college at Glen Oaks Community College in Michigan, where she studied bookkeeping/accounting. She worked in the accounting field for many years, most recently, she was employed at The Card Room & Tiki Bar at Oxford Downs in Summerfield, Florida.
Monica loved to go to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. She was a pass holder to both and visited them regularly, but Epcot was always her favorite place.
She enjoyed, reading, doing puzzles, and spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren, Ethan and Kaylee, who were her pride and joy.
Monica is survived by her loving husband Michael Harper; her son Justin Day & (Gina Huff) of Sturgis, Michigan; Her daughter and Son-in-law Kevin & Jessie Caudill of Ocala, Florida; her two beloved grandchildren- Ethan Day and Kaylee Caudill of Ocala, Florida; Two sisters- Exer & (Rosco) Johnson of Bevinsville, KY, and Debra & (Scott) Chapman of Lagrange, IN; Three brothers- Ray & (Linda) Lackey of Goshen, IN, David Lackey & (Tonya Martinez) of Lagrange, IN, and Randy & (Sherri) Lackey of LaGrange, IN.
Four stepsons and their families- Michael Jr. & Toni Harper and their four children of Chipley, Florida, William Harper and his daughter of Carbondale, PA, Kyle Harper and his two sons of Panama City, Florida, and Brandon & Abigail Harper and their two children of Panama City, Florida.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Alford “Craig” Lackey and John & (Linda) Lackey all of Lagrange, IN.
Monica will be deeply missed by her family and friends especially Brian Vanwinkle of Lagrange, IN, and Raeann Navarro of Ocala, FL.
Visitation for Monica will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Belleview (5946 SE Robinson RD, Belleview, FL 34420.) The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14th, 2022, at 11:00 am at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala (910 E Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, FL) with interment to follow at Highland Memorial Park.
