Obituary of Marjorie Ann Cook

Ocala, FL – Marjorie "Marge" Ann Cook, 95, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2022. She was born in Rushsylvania, Ohio on December 20, 1926, to the late Floyd Ralphard Allen and Grace Small Allen. After graduating from high school, she studied and became a licensed cosmetologist (she preferred the word "hairdresser"), then soon opened and operated her first hair salon.

Marge (her preferred nickname) was married for fifty years to her childhood sweetheart, Raymond Eugene Cook, Sr. She and her husband continued living in Ohio for many years where they worked and started a family together. They later moved to Ocoee, Florida with their children, where she opened and operated another hair salon while her husband joined the police department and served as a police officer.

After their children were out of school, and her husband retired from law enforcement, they moved to Ocala, Florida where she once again opened and operated a series of hair salons over the years. Additionally, Marge volunteered as a Hospice caregiver, spending much of her available time providing companionship and assistance to people, during their end-of-life challenges.

When not working or volunteering, she enjoyed crafts, miniatures, dollmaking, reading, aerobics, games, and dancing. She was committed to rigorous daily aerobics routine and was actively involved with dancing groups in the local area. She was a fierce Yahtzee opponent, who seemed to win more often than lose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Eugene Cook, Sr. and her youngest son, David Wayne Cook. She is survived by her other two children, Raymond Eugene Cook, Jr., and Carole Lynn Mort, nine grandchildren, and a surviving sister, Evelyn Crawford of Old Town, FL. She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A private celebration of her life will follow.

In Lieu of Flowers, please consider a donation in her name to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which is a not-for-profit, section 501(c)(3) corporation.
