Obituary of Shana Giles Casey
Shana Giles Casey passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022 after battling hard against leukemia. She was born in Key West Florida on May 11, 1958, making her a true and rare Key West Conch. She lived most of her life in Big Pine Key, save for the last two years in which she retired from First State Bank of the Florida Keys and moved to Ocala, Florida.
She is survived by her husband Richard Casey, Jr., her mother Claudia Moore, sister Sheri Giles Golden and honorary sister Carmela Buganski, niece Samantha Golden, and nephews Casey and Cameron Alexander. Shana is also survived by grieving aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws and out laws. Her vast army of friends will miss her brilliant smile and unmistakable laughter, especially on occasions where fun and merriment are to be had.
She whole heartedly served the Big Pine Key community by dedicating decades of leadership and service to The Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce and Lower Keys Rotary Club. They would be surprised to know that their award winning past President and Rotarian of The Year used to tease her little sister without mercy.
The Relay for Life team will remember her twenty-plus years of fundraising, baking and quilting. They will also remember her boundless creativity and her ability to make a 2:00AM walk around the track seem like fun.
Shana had a passion for all things that involved food, fun and celebration. She could elevate a simple cake into a masterpiece. Such was her way of living her life and loving those in it.
Celebration of Life...you betcha. Details will be forthcoming.
