We are thinking of you today. Wishing you peace, comfort, courage and lots of love at this time of sorrow. I remember both Don and Ruth coming to Rome and meeting him for the first time. I also remember him playing the guitar and if I remember he sang a country song. He was very talented. Let his music and voice live on forever in your memory

My grandfather was the most incredible man. I feel as if there aren't any words to adequately describe the light he gave to those around him. He had a sweet, gentle, and humble nature and would give anyone the shirt off of his back if they needed it. His dedication to his wife and family was commendable, his love to his neighbors was inspiring, and his faithfulness to the Lord is something I will always admire. I will always remember him singing to me on his piano, where his soothing voice would cause all the stressors of life to dissipate in that moment. I miss him terribly and, selfishly, I want him back; however, I know that he is now in complete paradise, in the arms of his loving Savior, with a crown placed on his head.

My deepest sympathy to the Safford family. I will always remember Don by his infectious smile and love of music. I met him and Ruth for the first time when my sister Susan graduated college so many years ago. He was always so kind. I know how much he is loved and how much he will be missed. My prayers go out to Ray, Susan, Kate. Jessica, Donna and Kay, and to all that knew and loved him. Peace and love, Kristin Esposito and family

It is difficult to find the words to describe how wonderful of a man Don was. Whether he supported you through prayer, a hug, or a physical gift, Don was always insisting on ways to make your day better. Simple compliments like “I like your iPad, Grandpa!” resulted in, “It’s yours- I insist!!” Looking into my grandfather’s eyes would reveal the most perfect and pure love. Watching him interact with his wife Kay was adorable. Observing him sneakily find ways to brighten the day of those around him was incredible. There truly aren’t words- if you’re looking for the kindest soul, this is it. It is him. I’m so happy for Don as he is in the arms of his Savior- something so wonderful we can’t even imagine. I look forward to seeing him again one day and will never forget the lessons he taught me in the meantime.
