I am deeply saddened to hear of Kris' passing. I met Kris at LSV (Lutheran Service Volunteers) school in Enid in 1965. We talked long into the night about all of the things that are important in life. We were camp counselors at Camp Lutherhoma in Tahlequah. She was my first love and my date to the Junior/Senior Prom in Stillwater in 1966. At that age, neither of us had drivers licenses, so we saw each other as often as we could.
The moment that stands out for me was at LSV school. We were on a tour at what was then the State school for the mentally retarded. We went through one room and visited with some of the young kids. We moved on to another area. One of the young boys had drawn a picture and wanted to be sure to give it to her. The picture wasn't for anyone else. He responded to that inner special caring that was Kris. So did I.
Kris will always have a special place in my heart.
