Obituary of Victor John Souza
Victor John Souza II, 79, of Ocala, Florida passed away peacefully at EW & Lucille Cates Hospice House on July 6, 2022. He was born in San Diego, California on March 25, 1943. Vic is survived by his wife, Amor; children, Kim, Tanya, and Jason; son-in-law, Tom; grandchildren, Tabitha, Trent, Tara, and Heidi Rose; his brother, Larry; and his three dogs, Hera, Twinkie, and Drake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Helen, and his grandmother, Polly Taylor.
Vic was a native of San Diego, California, but spent much of his youth exploring the world. He always had a hunger for adventure and excitement. As soon as he was old enough, Vic joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Seabee. Vic was a lifelong friend of the sea. After spending many years abroad, both in the Navy and in civilian aviation, he returned to Southern California, where he challenged the open ocean as a commercial fisherman. As his family’s needs changed, he chose to pursue other careers and entrepreneurial endeavors that would afford more time and focus for his children. But he would continue to fulfill his love of the sea by sharing it with his loved ones, often taking them sailing and deep sea fishing.
In 2000, Vic married his wife, Amor, and together the two shared 21 years of love and happiness before his passing. Vic and Amor moved to Ocala in 2006, where they could enjoy a peaceful life away from the big city. It was here that he revived his teenage love of hot rods and drag racing with his 1973 Mercury Comet. He made many good friends in Florida who he cherished and loved. He was a champion for the downtrodden, eager to fight for those less fortunate, whom he encountered in his daily life. His lifelong dedication to his family and friends will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held for Victor on Saturday, July 16 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services in Ocala, Florida. Burial will remain private for family at Highland Memorial Park.
