Obituary of Virginia Wanner Cardenas

Virginia Wanner Cardenas, 60, of Ocala, Florida passed away at her home surrounded by family on May 21, 2022. She was born September 19, 1961, the daughter of John and Virginia Wanner. Virginia was a native of New York City before moving to the Ocala area thirty years ago. Virginia worked most of her life with Great American Equine Insurance where she worked as an underwriter.  Virginia was devoted to her daughter and they both shared a love for horses.  Trying to bring awareness to the breed, she bred and trained New Forest ponies on her farm.   Virginia loved her family, loved to travel and loved to laugh.  At the end, Virginia faced a long and difficult illness with courage and grace.

Virginia is survived by her daughter and son in law, Katelyn and Dale Gifford; her sisters, Maryann and Jean, her brothers, John, Thomas and Martin.  

A funeral service for Virginia will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 28 at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church,151 SW 87th Pl, Ocala, FL 34476.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org). Online condolences may be sent to hiers-baxley.com.
