Obituary of Mary Alice Adkison

Mary Alice Adkison, passed peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family April 30. Born in Ocala on December 13, 1928, she graduated from Ocala High School in 1947. In 1948 she married the love of her life, H.Montell Adkison, who predeceased her in 2008.  Over her lifetime, she was active in many community clubs and organizations including various Parent Teacher Associations, the Ocala Woman’s Club, Ocala Garden Club, and a member of the First Methodist Church. For fifty years she was a charter member of a local supper club where the same couples met monthly for homemade food and lasting close friendships. Most recently she was active on the Board of Directors of H.U.G.S. local cancer charity. She retired only recently from Koontz Company where she was bookkeeper and office manager for over 60 years.

          A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, employee, and friend to many, she is survived by her daughter Monte Adkison , Ocala, son, John Adkison, Ocala, daughter Cindy Alyea(Mike), Saint Augustine, grandson, Tyler Maeger, Powder Springs, Georgia, and two she considered her granddaughters,  Anupa Asokan and Falon Elliott. She also is survived by numerous nephews and nieces, and her loyal canine companion, Nana.

          Mary Alice was an inspiration to many through her loyal friendships, devotion to family, and generosity in the community and at work. Her faith and her family were always paramount in her life.

          She will be interred in the Hillcrest section of Highlands Memorial Park Cemetery in Ocala next to her beloved husband where a graveside memorial service will be held on May 14th at 10:00 a.m. Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services is handling the arrangements.
