Obituary of Donald Eugene Curtis
Donald Eugene Curtis, 95, of Ocala, FL passed away peacefully at his home on March 6, 2022. He was the husband of the late Fern Curtis for 64 years.
Donald was born in Marion, IN and was the eldest son of the late Virgil and Florence (Fitzsimmons) Curtis. He was an active member of the Joy Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ocala, FL. He loved to talk to people and make those around him laugh. He was a true patriot having served in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne during WWII. He retired from the fire department in Dayton, OH as lieutenant after serving for 27 years. He loved baseball, as he was a professional minor league ball player in his younger years and continued through his senior years with softball. He was also an avid golfer with several holes-in-one.
Donald will be deeply missed by his daughter Teresa Cercek of Ocala, FL, son Douglas Curtis of Columbus, OH, and his nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of Elisabeth Burnett and Emily Hauser. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Curtis, his parents, and brothers Thomas Curtis and Richard Curtis.
The family will receive friends at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services-Timberridge, 9695 SW 110th Street, Ocala, FL 34481 on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00PM followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM with The Reverend Arthur Wuertz officiating.
