Obituary of James Francis Whalen Jr.
James F. Whalen Jr. ,90, passed away peacefully February 15, 2022 with his caring wife by his side. He was born September 9,1931 in Bridgeport CT , the second eldest child of Jame F. Whalen Sr. and Winifred (Johnson) Whalen. Jim was a long time resident of CT where he had a long and distinguished career in Management Information Systems before retiring to Florida. He was a proud US Navy Veteran. He graduated from Fairfield University with a B.S. in Mathematics followed by a Masters degree in Mathematics from NYU. Jim was a strong participant in his faith. His love of reading was passed on to his children. He shared his passion of golf with family and friends. His one disappointment with golf is that he never experienced the joy of a "Hole in ONE” unlike Louise and his son Jimmy. He was an avid card player and frequent winner. James is predeceased by his sister Jean M. Wall and brother Jerome J. Whalen. He is survived by Louise, his loving wife of 55 years, their children, daughter Kathleen and her husband Robert Calway of Abington MA , daughter Diane Whalen of Newington CT, and son James F Whalen III of Rocky Hill CT. He will be missed by his grandsons Christopher(Kelly); Cory(Nikki); and Tyler(Angie) Calway, great grandchildren Hazel, Harriet and Finn. He is also survived by his brother John R. (Stephanie)and sister in law Sandra Whalen. Visitation will be held Sunday February 20, 2022 from 2-4 pm at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Home at 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages. A funeral Mass will be at St. Mark the Evangelist Church in Summerfield FL on Monday February 21,2022 at 10 am . A burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Bushnell FL at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St Mark the Evangelist Church or The Villages Hospice House.
