I am deeply sorry to hear of the loss of Herb. I still cannot believe it. I still remember the first time I went into his office for an interview . He was looking for a Paralegal that specialized mostly in what he did. Herb was very professional and pleasant to be around. I was a little nervous but he made me feel relaxed and was very interested in my resume. My speciality was Bankruptcies and Family Law and he stated that was exactly what he needed someone that knew Bankruptcies and Family Law. He hired me and that was the beginning of our friendship as boss and paralegal ready to tackle the legal world. At that time I had been a paralegal of 32 years and now 38 years. I had just moved down from Indiana back to Florida. When he found out I was raised in Ocala since age 2 and went to high school with him, I was a year ahead of him but knew of him that just started a conversation with him like I've known him for years. As time went on I noticed that all the clients that came to see him on legal matters he would spend as much time with them as he could. I remember telling him that he should limit the time on each client due to he had other clients waiting. The first thing he said, " I know but these clients are why I'm here and I give them as much time as they need until they understand what I'm saying and they feel good about it." I would just grin and carry on. I always loved helping people too and I was glad I worked for him. Sometimes we had weeks that I knew that it inevitably coincided with weeks stacked to the rafters with challenges despite the pile already destined to ruin my weekend, I would sat down at my desk and surveyed the stack; obviously the weekend was going to be spent working at my computer but I always had trouble saying NO to him but Herb and I got through them together with flying colors.
His love for his family was top notch. His kids were the most important thing to him and his wife. He was a good family man and I could tell they came first in his life and that's what I loved about him.
He was someone who made a huge difference in peoples' lives . He was patient with people and they loved him. He was one of the best attorneys that I have ever worked for and one of the best reactions I have witnessed is the love for the law and the understanding for his client that can blossom when knowing and working with him. Herb was kind, thoughtful, smart, and caring for his Clients and his Paralegal. I will always remember him as a great boss.
