Obituary of Donald Charles Mills
Donald Charles Mills, born in Ocala, Florida November 20, 1942 to Preston & Ovada Mills, passed away on October 3, 2021. Don was raised in Ocala, Florida and graduated from Ocala High School June 6, 1961. Don’s parents had a grocery store in the 50’s where he learned the grocery and meat business from his father. In 1962, Don enlisted in the United States Army and served in Vietnam until Dec 1965. Once his tour was up, Don decided that he could make a better living in South Florida. He began working at Winn Dixie in Hollywood, FL in the produce department ultimately becoming a meat market manager. Don raised his two children Donna Mills (Mast) and Michael Mills in Pembroke Pines, FL. In 1998 Don returned to Marion County and purchased “The Farm” in Morriston, FL. He retired from Winn Dixie after 42 years. Don loved his farm, but most importantly he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Our Dad (PopPop) will be forever missed.
Donald is survived by his daughter Donna J. Mast (Paul); his son, Michael S. Mills (Teresa); his grandchildren, Gabrielle L. Adams (Colt), Jesse C. Aviles, Crystal Whitehead (Kevin), and Jennifer Turpin (Jeremy); his great grandchildren, Kenna Faye Adams and Adaline Grey Adams. He is also survived by his sisters Marilyn Laye and Sally Barlow.
He was preceded in death by his brother Preston Marion Mills, Jr.
A funeral service for Donald will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church on Friday, October 8 at 4:00pm. Visitation will be held from 3:30pm until the time of the service. Military honors for Donald will follow the service.
