As our lives follow path to path, road to road, we tend to set aside people and places of our past and adapt to the "new". Memories always remain. I grew up with Vern in Manchester NH, he lived on a beautiful property on Island Pond Road, I lived at Crystal Lake. Just a bike ride or easy walk over to his house to spend time doing "country boy" things. His dad, Clarence, was our rural carrier.
Vern and I went to Central HS. On the same day in 1960 Vern, myself, and three other fellas went to the Post Office and enlisted in the US Navy. In 1966 I took a job with the USPO and as fate seemed to follow Vern took a job as rural carrier. I was a clerk casing mail, Vern would come round and "pull" the mail for his route. One of the other fellas we joined the service with was also a city carrier.
My sincere condolences to Jeanne and family. I pray for your comfort and recovery.
