Mom died on August 24th….just 3 days before her birthday. She would have been 74 years old. And that was not nearly enough time with her.

Mom was sparkles and sequins and bright colors. She was long acrylic nails with bright polish, designs, and rhinestones.

She always seemed to know what I needed before I did. Every conversation I had with her, no matter how long it was, always seemed to have a message or some advice woven into it. Even if I didn’t notice until after we hung up, or even days later, I would suddenly realize “oh….that’s what she was saying.”

Mom knew if you needed gentle encouragement, or a nudge in the right direction, or sometimes even as she would say “a swift kick in the ass” if she thought you were headed down the wrong path. She never hesitated to speak her mind or tell you if she thought you were headed in the wrong direction…but she always did it with the best intentions.

She lived her life with humility and grace. Her faith carried her every day, and she was unshakable. She prayed the rosary daily in the car and always made sure to remind us that we were nothing without our faith in God.

She wasn’t afraid of anything. At least not that I could tell. She had a very firm grasp on her mortality and was not afraid of death. I lived in awe of her fearlessness and strength

I know my mom didn’t just go to heaven. She was welcomed through those gates with a standing ovation. And the Lord himself said “Well Done.”
