Obituary of Carl E. Smetana

Carl E Smetana, passed away unexpectedly on August 13, 2021, at the age of 85, at his home in Ocala, Florida of natural causes. Carl was born on September 23, 1935, to Paul and Julia Smetana of Allentown, Pennsylvania.  Carl graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1953, and married Louise (Gentzle) Smetana on September 7, 1957, in Alpha, New Jersey at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Carl enlisted in the US Navy in 1955 and served four years; he was honorably discharged in 1959. Carl worked as a salesman for NL Industries for 20 years, first in the New York area, then was promoted to cover the states of Indiana and Michigan and lived in Elkhart Indiana from 1972 through 1978. Carl worked at Lehigh Valley Fasteners from1978 through 1993 and lived in Nazareth Pennsylvania. Carl retired to Ocala, Florida in 1993 and lived there until his death. 

Survivors include Daughter Kathleen A. (Smetana) Hogsten (Husband Dale, sons Marcus and Brian, and daughter Shelly); son, David Smetana (Wife Jorie, daughters, Crystal, Lindsey, and son, David II); son, Stephen Smetana (Wife, Bobbie and sons, Drew and Ryan); sister, Paula (Smetana) Getter; and ten great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 4-8 PM on Thursday, August 26th at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, TimberRidge, 9695 SW 110th Street, Ocala, Florida 34481. A funeral service will be held at Hiers-Baxley, TimberRidge, on Friday, August 27th, 2021, at 8:30 AM with Father Patrick officiating followed by a military tribute and interment at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
