Obituary of Sergeant Charles Long
Sergeant Charles “Chuck” Long, 68, of Ocala, Florida, passed away at home on July 18, 2021. He was born June 24, 1953, the son of Elmer Long and the late Mary Morgan Long. Chuck was a native of Ronceverte, West Virginia before moving to the Ocala area in 1956 from Columbus, Ohio. In 1979, he married his loving wife, Deborah, and together the two shared many years of love and happiness.
As a long time Ocala resident, Sgt. Long graduated from Forest High school in 1971 and began his law enforcement career with the Leesburg PD. After some years away he returned to the profession in 1999 with the Ocala Police Department. His discernment and good judge of character allowed him to serve the public with both bravery and compassion for 21 years. He retired from the Ocala Police Department just two weeks prior to his passing.
Off duty, Chuck built a beautiful life devoted to his beloved wife and their family. His commitment to God and family, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and the love of travel are a legacy he leaves to his children and grandchildren. In his spare time Sgt. Long enjoyed cruises with his wife, Gator football with his dad, family game nights, riding his Harley, camping, fishing and exploring the mountains. Chuck’s honor, love, and bravery will forever be carried in the hearts of those who love him.
Chuck is survived by, loving wife Deb Long; daughters Angela Vey, Son-in-law Robert, Heather Franqui , Son-in-Law David; Son Paul Sherrouse, Daughter-in-law Alicia; his father, Elmer Long, grandchildren, Courtney, Aaron, Mya, Mckayla, Cameron, Owen, Alexandria, Hayleigh, Logan, Julianna; Great Grandsons Ashton and Grayson. As well as a large group of in-laws, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Long; sister Kay Mills and Daughter Courtney Ramsey.
A memorial service for Chuck will be held at 4:00pm on Friday, July 30 at Good News Church of Ocala (5600 SE 24th St, Ocala, FL 34480). Chaplain Doug Green will be officiating. Online condolences may be sent to hiers-baxley.com.
