In Loving Memory
James Aloysius Beakey, Jr.
October 27, 1932 – June 23, 2021
James “Jim” Beakey, 88, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2021 at home in Lady Lake, Florida. Jim was born in New York City on October 27, 1932. He is survived by his wife, Norma, four children, Mary Jo Welsh and her husband Frans Insinger (McDonough, Georgia), Barbara Heise (St. Joseph, Michigan), Jean Beakey (Chicago, Illinois), and Jim Beakey and his wife Anna (Dedham, Massachusetts), five grandchildren, Sean Welsh (Dearborn, Michigan), Noah Heise (Pittsford, Vermont), Anna Heise (St. Joseph, Michigan), Spencer Beakey and Nicholas Beakey (Dedham, Massachusetts), and his sister, Marylee McGeeney (Brooklyn, New York). He was predeceased by his parents, James Aloysius Beakey, Sr. and Leontine Dorsey Beakey.
Jim was a great lover of music, and as a young man played trumpet in the dance band at Xavier High School in New York City. He continued playing in college while attending Fordham University. After retirement, he rediscovered that passion playing his trumpet in The Villages Concert Band, The Villages New Horizons Band, and the Brass Quartet that played on Sundays at St Timothy’s. Jim also loved the game of golf and shared that love of the game with his family.
Jim retired in 2004 from Wells Fargo Bank as Senior Vice President of Corporate Trust. Prior to his long career in banking, marketing and public relations, he served proudly in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. After returning to the United States, Jim met and married Norma, raised a family and ultimately found his way to The Villages, FL. The last 20 years of his life were spent enjoying golf, music, travel, food, friends and family – and most importantly for him, being a devoted husband to Norma.
A Memorial service is scheduled for 8:30am on Tuesday, July 13th at St Timothy’s Lady Lake, Florida.
