Obituary of George C. Osborne
Well-known NYSEG executive, George C Osborne, 92, of Ocala FL, formerly of Canisteo, NY, died peacefully June 25, 2021, at home following a brief illness.
Born in Elmira, NY, he was the son of the late Claude and Jane Cotton Osborne. A 24- year resident of Canisteo NY until October 1998, George was residing in Ocala, FL at the time of his death.
He was a graduate of Southside High School, Elmira, NY in 1947; and from Broome Community College in 1955.
George was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Air Force until his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in Airmen’s Electronics at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS.
He completed 34 years of service with New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), having served as Safety Director, Personnel Director, Director of Employee Benefits, Assistant To The President, completing his last 14 years as District Manager in Hornell, NY.
George was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee for the Study of Two-Year Colleges in New York, a member of the Board of Trustees of Broome Community College and elected Trustee Emeritus in 1975. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors, Hornell Area Chamber of Commerce; and a member of the Board of Directors of First State Bank, Canisteo where he served for 14 years; former member of the Hornell and Canisteo chapters of Rotary International; member of the American Legion; and lifetime member of the NRA.
His family includes his wife of 71 years, the former Jeanne Drake; son Richard (Stacey Lewis) Osborne of Prattville; AL, daughter Judith (William) Clifford of Hornell, NY; daughter Jennifer (William) Stewart of Ocala, FL; grandchildren Cassandra (Brent) Robertson, Cristin (Cody Martin) Osborne, Michael (Christen) Osborne, Timothy (Kelsey) Osborne; Elizabeth Clifford; Joseph (Monica) Stewart, Brian (Kathy) Stewart; four great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by granddaughter Cathryn Rose Clifford, sister Anna Nation, and brother John Osborne.
At George’s request, there will be no services. Private committal in Canisteo, NY will be at the family’s convenience.
