Dads are someone to look up to, someone to follow, someone to admire, someone to be proud of and someone to brag about, someone to hold and someone to cry with, someone to learn from and someone to respect, someone to listen to and someone to talk to, someone to try and impress, sometimes rebel against, and, someone, most of all, with whom to share everything this wonderful life has to offer.
I am so incredibly grateful and happy that I am able tell you that I have had all this and much, much more with my dad Jack, even though I felt there were so many more years to have had with him. I have been blessed to have had Jack as my dad.
To say I loved my dad would be an understatement - and to say I’m going to miss him would be an even greater understatement.
I cannot begin to imagine not having Dad on the end of a phone or around at a moment’s notice to assist, in his ever graceful manner, with any project great or small with which I happen to be needing advice or help for.
Dad was always there for everyone, family, neighbors, colleagues, or friends, even if they didn't always return the favor.
He was a very clever and prideful man but was never afraid of his emotions. He could help you with a complex household or physical life problem or just as happily, as many of you know, offer to be the light of the party no matter how many attended. Jacks voice was ALWAYS heard a mile away.
Dad was also always there for mom to the as any good husband, man should be making her want none or need none. He always made sure that she was always taken care of, even in his last breath he took, him in her arms.
For over 26 years they have shared everything life can offer - together. They were a great team supporting each other in every way.
Dad was hard working, compassionate towards everyone, and deserved the success and rich life that he enjoyed. He taught me many, many things but I think most importantly he gave us the ability to know that if you really put your mind to something, anything is possible, and never to be afraid to give anything a go, no matter where you came from and what you started from.
His passion for hard work and living his life for a wonderful retirement gave him many happy hours creating working hard, even on the weekends.
It is of course always possible to look back and remember those times when things didn’t always go to plan, like when I was suppose to go to a Clay Aiken concert with my mom, and I had made these awesome shirts for me and my mother that said "Clay Aiken is my American Idol". My mother had to go see my grandfather as he was in a horrendous accident, and so my dad took her place....wearing HER shirt and all. I would post pics, but those do not exist LOL. He stood and supported me, though hiding behind a tree until we went inside and didnt dare let me taking pics of him in a shirt that was def small for him and def not for him lmao. Good man!
Nobody can be perfect but Dad was as close to being the most perfect Dad anyone could have.
Dad's love was unconditional and this is something I will cherish from his character – and take with me forever. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
I am humbled by Mum’s strength over the past few days and her ability to focus on the amazing life she shared with my Dad and not dwell on what she has lost.
I hope that through this I can find strength from her example and be there for her whenever she needs me.

"To my husband, my rock, may you rest in peace. You will always and forever be in my heart and I will cherish every bit of the 26 years we had together. Although short, it was the best 26 years of my life. " - Pamela Brooks, Wife/Widow of Jackie E Brooks
