Obituary of Thomas Leonard Verrastro

Thomas Leonard Verrastro, 83, of The Villages, Florida, passed away at the Villages Hospital on April 12, 2021. He was the son of Pasquale Verrastro and Giovanna Bonavogila Verrastro, born in Dunmore, PA. He graduated in 1956 from Moscow High School in Moscow, PA. Tom was a veteran of the US Air Force and served 4 years being stationed in Dover, Delaware.

His beverage business, T. Verrastro Beer Distributing, started in Towanda, PA. In 1963 he moved the business to West Hazleton, PA where the family business is still operating today. After retiring, he and his wife moved to The Villages, Florida in 2006 but spent his summers in Hazleton with his family.

Tom was a longtime member and past president of the West Hazleton Lions Club, a 35 year member of the Elks Club, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a board member of United Charities in West Hazleton, and a 35 year member of the Men of Malvern Retreat.

He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, hunting, and going to shows and dinners with friends. One of his favorite things was drying his cayenne peppers and sharing them with everyone. He always looked forward to Friday nights with his children and grandchildren.

His is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosellen Hollister Verrastro, 6 children; Regina Marchese & husband Andre, Pasquale Verrastro & wife Kerry, Thomas Verrastro, Jr. & wife Fran, Catherine Dutz Verrastro and companion Dave Mehalchick, John Verrastro, Vincenzo Verrastro and wife Georgia, also 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son, Leonard, who died 2 years ago and six siblings, Catherine, Canio, Salvatore, Leonard, James, and Dominick.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, Florida 32162 beginning at 10:30AM on Friday, April 30, 2021. Family will be accepting guests prior to the service beginning at 10:00AM.
