Obituary of Johnnie M. Cox

Johnnie M. Cox, 87, of Ocala passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at the EW and Lucille Cates Hospice House.  Johnnie was a native of Irwin County, Georgia and moved to this area in January 1970.  He was a retired financial manager and a veteran of the United States Army.  Johnnie was a passionate baseball player in his youth. As his boys grew, he showed them his love for the game by teaching them the sport, coaching Little League, and umpiring for local teams. In his free time, he was an avid gardener, fisherman, and continued playing pickup games of baseball. Johnnie was heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He was also an active member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Johnnie had a captivating sense of humor, infectious smile, and unforgettable laugh.  He is survived by his wife Jeannine Cox; sons, Gregory (Krisa), Dean (Shelly), and Gary (Nelia); sister, Marteal (William) Brown; granddaughters Sydney, Delaney, and Hayley Cox. Johnnie is preceded in death by his son John Darren Cox. A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Wednesday, January 13^th 2021 at Trinity Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church of Ocala Florida. Online condolences may be sent at www.hiers-baxley.com.
