Obituary of Filomena Florence Fourman
Filomena Florence (D'Amico) Fourman of Ocala passed away on January 3, 2021 at age 99, surrounded by her family.
Born January 18, 1921, in Waterbury, CT, to Italian immigrants Ursula and Libero D'Amico, Florence was the widow of Richard Fourman. The two met when Flo worked at Lux Clocks in Waterbury, and Richard was stationed there in the Army Air Corp. They were married on April 20, 1945, and were together for 65 years. After first residing in Pitsburg, OH, they moved to Laura, OH in 1969 when they purchased Roark's Furniture Store. Dick and Flo maintained a strong commitment to Trinity Lutheran Church in Pitsburg. They were active with a large circle of friends; bowled, golfed, and played tennis together; and traveled to many countries. Flo became a mother of two sons and one daughter, all of whom were active in sports. Dick and Flo were avid supporters of their children's activities, missing only one game due to foreign travel. Flo always laughed that at 5'0" tall, she was the basketball First Team All City forward (wearing bloomers) in High School. Competitive and athletic, she played golf and tennis into her 80s and enjoyed playing cards at her home community of Oak Run.
To know Flo was to love her. Flo was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a woman of faith. She was the happiest when her family was around. Everyone enjoyed her home-cooked Italian meals. While she was never one to steal the spotlight, she was always the life of the party. Flo will be remembered for her warmth and empathy for others, her laughter, and booming voice. Whenever music was playing, Flo was singing along and tapping her fingers. She enjoyed visiting her family in Waterbury, where her brothers and sisters sang, played guitar, and shared great times.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Fourman and Ronald (Emily) Fourman; daughter, Barbara (Donald) Cameron; eleven grandchildren, Shani (Michael) Gadwaw, Cary (Monica) Fourman, Monica (Kevin) Grennan, Tommy (Erica and Noah Graniela) Fourman, Jaime Fourman, Andrea and Steven Fourman, Hannah and Alex Tyson, Alison and Scott Cameron; seven great-grandchildren, Cade and Skye Fourman, Austin, Liam, and Eion Kelly, Liam and Nora Grennan; sisters-in-law, Shirley Fourman and Kate Speidel; and many special nieces and nephews.
Flo is predeceased by her husband, Richard; seven brothers, John, Gus, Jerry, Mickey, Jackie, Carmen, and Frankie D'Amico; two sisters, Josephine Napalatano and Teresa DeMeis; and best friend, Doris Jean Koffer.
Flo was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church of Marion Oaks for many years where she always served coffee and baked goods after the services. Thank you to Pastor Wayne Gruel for his kindness and compassion.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Canopy Oaks in Ocala, FL, for many years of outstanding care and emotional support to both Flo and her family. A special thank you to Sharon Brown and Pastor Jim and Connie Mears for their love and care. Thanks also to Marybeth Foster and the staff at Hospice of Marion County E.W. and Lucille Cate's House for their compassion in her last days. Friends are encouraged to send memorial donations to Our Saviour Lutheran Church of Ocala, FL, or Hospice of Marion County. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
