Obituary of Eugene “Gene” Sauer
Eugene “Gene” Sauer, 73, of Ocala, Florida beloved husband and best friend of Sandy Sauer for 51 and a half years, lost his battle to cancer on Sunday, December 27, 2020. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones.
Gene was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He attended college in Ohio at the University of Cincinnati, where he meant the love of his life. Gene was the Human Resource Director for various companies which resulted in him moving from Cincinnati to Jacksonville and finally to Ocala. He retired from Custom Windows in 2014.
Once retired, Gene and Sandy spent their time traveling. They would go on “field trips” once a month and always took the not so, short cut to get there. Gene and Sandy bought a lake house in Inverness along with a pontoon boat. He loved being on the lake and fishing from the dock.
Anyone who knew Gene knew that he was the family rock. He was an incredible father, husband, friend and man. His loyalty, strength, and love were steadfast and his quick wit and sense of humor, impressive. He was a good man... genuine, authentic, true, and kind and his actions always spoke louder than his words.
He was predeceased by his parents, Eugene and Marion Sauer. Besides his wife, Sandy, Gene is survived by his children, Amy Karp and her husband, Phil of Marietta, Georgia, Lea Deutscher and her fiancé, Jason Jones of Ocala, Florida and his grandchildren, Ethan and Ashlyn Deutscher and Taelor and Madison Jones, along with his brother Allen Sauer of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Two brother in laws Robert (Butch) Smith and his wife Sue of Columbus, Ohio and Timothy Smith and his wife Kathy of Cincinnati, Ohio. Gene is also survived by his nieces, Kristie Friermood and Jennifer Ko along with his nephews Scott Smith, AJ Smith and Zach Smith.
