Obituary of Lynn R. Davenport
Lynn R. Davenport, 80, of The Villages, FL passed away Friday, October 30, 2020 at home after a long battle with end stage renal disease. He was born January 8, 1940 in Kokomo, IN to William E. Davenport and Marjorie (Pounds) Davenport. On May 9, 1981, he married Janice Wanamaker Smith.
Lynn graduated from Kokomo High School, Kokomo, IN in 1958. He attended Butler University, Indianapolis, IN and Indiana University, Kokomo Campus. He served in the US Army for six months and was honorably discharged in 1967. He retired in 1986 from Continental Steel Corporation as Superintendent of the Blooming and Billet Mill. In 1986, he moved with his wife to Sun Prairie, WI and in 2004 to The Villages, FL. Memberships included a 58 year member of the Grand Lodge Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana, Howard Lodge No. 93, Indianapolis Valley Scottish Rite, Murat Temple, Shriners International.
Survivors include his wife Janice “Jan” Davenport; son Brett Davenport, Russiaville, IN; daughter Dawn (Doug) LaLonde, Kokomo, IN; step-daughters Jill Smith and Jodi (Sam) Preston, Bloomington, IN; and grandchildren Alisha, Allyson, Auston, Brody, and Jaimy. He was preceded in death by his parents William “Ed” and Marjorie Davenport
Lynn enjoyed living his retirement in The Villages. He loved to take guests on a grand tour of The Villages, be the first one to welcome new people to the Castleberry Circle neighborhood and cruise in his golf cart with his pal “CJ.” He was known for his huge Christmas Holiday displays and holiday garage parties.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Falestiny, the employees at DaVita-Laurel Manor, Dr. Hayes, and Teri and Greystone Health, especially Renee.
The family suggests memorials may be given to the American Kidney Fund, Shriners Hospital for Children or the charity of your choice.
Private service will be held Fri., Nov. 20, 2020 1:00 PM at HIERS-BAXLEY Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, FL 32162 * 352-775-7427.
