Obituary of Albert August Beckmann, Jr.

Albert Beckmann, of The Villages, Florida passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020, while under the care of hospice. He was 84. Al was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 8, 1936. His family moved to New Hyde Park on Long Island where he grew up. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. He married Sally Douglas Stone on February 14, 1959.  He worked as an electrical design engineer for Airborne instruments Laboratory on Long Island. While employed there, he earned a Master of Science from Adelphi University. Their first son, David Albert, was born in February 1961. Their first daughter, Barbara was born in December 1962. Daughter Ruth Helen, was born in January 1966. His family moved to Sudbury, Massachusetts in 1971 when Al joined General Electric Co. to work as a system analyst on a project at Hanscom AFB. Their son, James William, was born May 1970. In 1978, they moved to Reston, Virginia where Al worked for GE at various government installations. He later joined GTE and continued working in the Washington DC area. His division at GTE was later acquired by General Dynamics where he continued to work until retiring in 2003.

 

Al and Sally moved to The Villages, Florida in 2003. He became a member of Hope Lutheran church in The Villages. He has been active in many clubs including being Treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic club and Treasurer of the Belleview Noon Lions Club. He enjoyed photography, golf, bocce, attending theater and playing games with his good friends and neighbors.  Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Hope Lutheran Church.  Arrangements entrusted with HIERS-BAXLEY Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center, 352-775-7427.  Sentiments may be left online at www.hiers-baxley.com.
