I knew Chuck from William Tell Weapons Meet 1980. He was an alternate pilot and I was the alternate Weapons Controller Tech. I remember we hung out a lot together during that month at Tyndall. He took me to an oyster bar and we had a great time. Wonderful guy.

It's been a long time, but Chuck was an ATO fraternity brother during our days at CSU. I seem to remember that he had a football scholarship but soon decided it wasn't worth the time and pain. He was a stalwart on our championship Intramural football team though. What a life he had! RIP

For my dear brother-in-law, Butch (Chuck) Townsend. Today in 1942, you were born...and what an extraordinary journey you had! We met in 1971 when you, your brother and I shared some beers and laughs at a bar in Daytona Beach. It was a lifetime ago, yet now, as I reflect on those 49 years, it feels like yesterday. The Townsend Clan made many wonderful memories - what a grand time we had! I wish we had reminisced before you left to fly the eternal skies. I miss you and still can't believe you have left us, but I will cherish my memories. Happy Birthday, dear brother. I love you and RIP.
PS...Kiss Mom and Dad for me.

I met Chuck in November 1964 when we reported to Williams AFB, AZ for pilot training in class 66D. Chuck was a friendly, larger than life guy who was always smiling and bringing joy to everyone he met. Over the years great times were had with Chuck and Kathy, even though we lived in different parts of the USA. I'll never forget "flying" in formation with our 40 ft motor homes at Lake Havasu, AZ, or relaxing in their beautiful home In Falmouth MA, Great times were had by all. Chuck saw to it! The biggest honor I had with Chuck is when he and Kathy flew with me on my United retirement trip from San Francisco to Sydney and back. I was thrilled to be in the cockpit with Chuck! He even let me fly the airplane! Chuck was one of the finest men I ever had the privilege of knowing. God Bless you Chuck Townsend and my you Rest In Peace.

I met Chuck in the summer of 85, and was immediately in awe of this larger than life man. Fifteen months later he became my brother in law. Chuck and Kathy welcomed me into their lives and their home and helped me find my way as I followed my dream and ultimately married the love of my life, Denise.
Chuck was a man that loved life, family and country, and I could always count on him for support. He was a warrior, patriot and a true American hero.
I will never forget you Chuck. While we always would kid each other about our brother in law pecking order, you really were number 1. I could never take that spot from you.
Rest In Peace Chuck knowing I will always watch out for Kathy.
Until we meet again
Colin

Great memories of Chuck at the 94th in Selfridge, Tyndall, and our two minute scrambles at Osan chasing the Bears and Badgers. Chuck was always in a good mood and always lots of fun to be with. Happy Landing friend and save me a stool.

For a distinguished Sixer of note:
Somewhere high above us
So far you cannot see
A rare gull dives and soars below
The ancient solar sea.
If you’ll just close your eyes
And gaze from within your soul
You’ll see a flash of memory white
Against that sea of coal.
Upon its wings inscribed
Where none may see but you
A text of mortal synkaryon winks
From those depths of cobalt blue.
Although it flies so far, so fast and high
It does not soar alone
For it smiles through our spirit’s eyes.
The gull is soaring home.

My memories of Chuck all take place on Cape Cod where I first met him in July 1983. His smile and laugh were always larger than life and even though I knew him through his sister in law, Donna he always welcomed me as extended family. My favorite memory was having laughs on their deck in Falmouth and watching him leave in his flight suit as he gave Kathy a huge hug as he went to "Go protect the Northeast Quadrant". Fly safe and pain free Chuck you were one in a million! And to Kathy, Donna, Steve, Denise Colin and all....."I love you more" Mauri

Dear Chuck! We had many fun times together. Towing my boat with your Corvette and swapping uniforms at The Farm. You will always be remembered as on of the guys. Never acted like an officer!! The maintenance troops loved you and we wait to see your smiling face once again in Heaven!! The world has lost a true hero, a warrior, husband and father!! God Rest Your Soul!!! We will make sure Kathy is fine. She and you have a wonderful group of friends and family.
