I met Cathy so many years ago in the Lynnhaven pool. She was a lovely woman and delightful to talk with as well. I lived right around the corner from Mike and she and, of late, think of her often and wonder what was going on with her since I didn't see her any more. I am sorry she is gone, sorry she suffered and pray she is safely in God's arms today.

Notes from Mom
Funerals
Funeral Director would bring the body to the house. They would dress the corpse in a shroud. The coffin would be set up in the parlour. All the mirrors in the house would be covered. The wake would be held for 3 days, on the 3rd day they would be buried.
The hearse would be horse drawn, in later times a car hearse was used.
Women did not go to the grave yard. The funeral procession was made up of the hearse and the men walked behind it to the graveyard.
In the village everyone had their window blinds drawn till the funeral procession passed.
The Wake
The wake was 2 full days and nights, neighbors came anytime and sat up with the family during the nights. That’s when the fun would start, there was plenty of food, booze, singing and telling jokes.
When my grannie died, I had to be forced to go to sleep; I didn’t want to miss anything
When my chums and I would find out someone had died, even if we didn’t know them we would go knock on the door and ask to see the dead man or woman, we would go in and say a prayer and leave. I don’t remember ever being afraid.
