My condolences to the O'brian family. You are blessed to have known, and been known, to have loved, and been loved by such a man. I feel blessed to have been able to share a brief moment of his life. God calls us to "love one another." John was one of those people who made it easy to do.1 Cor 13-8 says "Love never fails..." The love John so tirelessly sewed in all who he encountered, continues to live on in our hearts. Praying for God's peace and grace for you all. (Nadine Spence, care giver).

I had the blessing of spending time with John and his family for almost 2 years. He was a example of a good man by serving his country, loving and caring for his family, and serving the Lord faithfully. I never forget his smile and his warm hugs. From the bottom of my heart my condolences go to his family and a hug for John in heaven.

My father John Francis O'Brien was a special man, and lived a special life. He was the epitome of the American dream. The middle child of legal Irish immigrants, fleeing famine in their home country, he was born and lived in Brooklyn, NY. Raised a Catholic, educated, a good athlete, he stepped up and volunteered to enter the Army Air Corps in the midst of WW II. A young man soon put in charge of massive bomb loads dropped over Germany from the glass front of a B-17 Flying Fortress, maneuvering through a sky filled with flack, and staring German fighters head on. His plane was, in fact, shot out of the sky on a mission, spinning and breaking apart throwing him free with just enough time to deploy his parachute before hitting the ground, and breaking his arm. He was captured in short order, and spent the remainder of the war as a POW, liberated finally by the advancing US troops.
He returned to the USA to marry his sweetheart Eileen, birthed, raised, sheltered, educated and supported six children, all of whom graduated from college (he never did), and moved on to have military service, professional careers and families of their own. He managed to do this as a NYC Firefighter, and first responder, working hard and risking his own life every day in the service of others. Medically retired at age 52, he and our mother moved first from NYC to Pennsylvania, and then on to Ocala Fla., where they both lived until their death, his most recent. There they found great friends, a community and church, and continued to be outgoing members in that community, helping their neighbors in need, and dedicated to the cause of protecting the rights of the most vulnerable unborn.
John F. O'Brien was fiercely independent, conservatively political, a prolific writer, and fervently religious. A dedicated brother, son, husband and father. Always open and neighborly, greeting all with a smile and a handshake. A great example for all of his children and grandchildren. He led a full life, full of good memories and leaves behind a legacy of work ethic, volunteerism, caring for others, lack of prejudice, open heart and hand, and fairness to family and friends.
We all loved him, and will miss him...a good friend, husband and father. He did indeed live the American dream, and gave us all the opportunity to do the same through his dedication, work ethic, and love for all.
Bye Dad. Rest in Peace.
Your son
John G.O'Brien

Dear John,
I came to your life at the very last year of it. Helping you gave me the opportunity to get to know you a little and what a great soul you were. You made me laugh, made me believe in how wonderful resiliency can work, you had a great marriage, amazing life and great experiences, some not to good. And most Important of em all, your family. The love in it is beautiful and I know you were a big part to achieve that. I’ll miss your whistle, playing your favorite songs, and your warm smile. I love you and I’ll miss you!! My salutes to you soldier warrior! God gain a beautiful angel, inside and out! I love you John and thanks for making me part of your story. God bless you wherever you are.

Saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. John. He was such a nice man. He’d come in for his Chocolate ice cream treat with his buddy Bobbie. ( Bobbie kept him immaculate)
He wouldn’t have anything but his chocolate. He was always so well dressed and clean. Never dropping any of his chocolate. He especially adored the Veterans Wall in the shop. Mr. John, Thanks for you Service and may you forever RIP...

After over 95 years of a rewarding and wonderful life, my father John O'Brien, left earth to be with our Lord on Sunday, March 22nd. He leaves memories of a generous and compassionate life based on Christian principles. He was always held in esteem by those of us in his family, his associates, and friends. As a Fireman and active volunteer with his church, he was always there to assist those in need. Most everyone he interacted with was impressed by his friendliness, knowledge, frankness, and energy that he would show in helping others. He was a happy intellectual and spent the better part of his life helping the less fortunate.
