My brother, Chris and I, spent a lot of our childhood playing together and riding bikes with Tommy and maybe even set a field on fire (Chris!). Tommy and Chris were always close. Chris was always an underdog protector and since Tommy had Tourettes he was unfortunately a target. He defended our dear friend more times than I can count. Still, that did not deter Tommy from being one of the kindest souls I have ever known. And that my friends is before he became an EMT or a fighter. May you rest easy in Heaven my friend.

Of your five fights I photographed the most recent was 2005. Even so when I was told simply "Tom Sauer is gone" I remembered your name, didn't have to be reminded who you were. I forget what I had for breakfast yesterday and who is champion now but I remember YOU.

Gosh....where to even start. I first met Tommy in school. As I got to know him, he had the kindest heart but the strongest mind. That's the best way I can explain it....Tommy lived & endured Tourettes syndrome and the only reason I even mentioned this is bcuz later in our lives my oldest son Caleb who is 23 now was diagnosed with tourettes at the age of 5.
I hadn't talked to Tommy in several years when my son was diagnosed. I knew he worked for the fire Dept in Ocala. I needed his help, his guidance, his knowledge & his experience. As a mother I didn't know how to handle this....I admit!
So I called the fire station and asked for TOMMY Sauer. Whoever answered said we are confidential here. But I know since you're calling him TOMMY you must really know him...lol. He asked me to explain why I was calling...so I did. I told him about my son. He didn't hesitate...and said hang on a minute please. He put Tommy right on the phone. I told Tommy my situation and he dropped everything when he got off work. Gave me his address in Summerfield and me and my son met him there. Remind you my son was only 5. Caleb remembers to this day about the day we walked into his house & Tommy was doing a tattoo....as still as can be. When he was done and relaxed....with no concentration his tics began strong. He talked to Caleb and explained to Caleb that it's all about focusing... concentration.
Caleb has followed everything about Tommy's successful life.
He tremendously helped my son & myself.
Caleb was still shy of anyone knowing about his syndrome, except people who was close to him. The day after Tommy gaining his wings Caleb went public and let everyone not only know, but thanked Tommy for teaching him to be strong!
Tommy Sauer you are our hero and will always be!!!! My son is a successful man bcuz of you ❤️
We love you and will miss you!
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Tommy's family & friends

Tommy,
It is with a very heavy heart that I attach this pic from the early 1990's. We went to EMT school together and my funniest memory was your Tourette's. Something I had never heard of and every answer you would call out on our exam; I would inherently change my answer to, and they were ALL the correct answer!
It was your handling of this disease while working on the west side of Ocala with you for many years, that taught me humility; and the only thing that eclipsed your shoulders was the size of your heart. Even long after I left EMS and went on to medical school you continued to keep in touch. I watched your MMA career thrive and build a business with your sons. How proud I am to have been a friend and how sorely you will be missed. Rest easy my friend. We will take it from here...
God bless Tom's family, loved ones and all the lives he touched over several decades of EMS and his community services. You will be missed brother. John Slish MD

Tom had the purest heart! He had his mischievous side that was told in his smile. He could make you feel like you belonged, no matter how awkward you felt. He was a smile you could spot from across the room, a story that you wanted to hear, a friend that knew no strangers, he was unconditional friendship and a great role model. He never let us see him down. I could go on and on, but I will say I was blessed to have known Tommy.

Dear Sherrie, Austin, Arianna, Asia, and Abby,
What a shock it was to learn of Tommy passing. Tommy was a great person . He will be greatly missed by every one who knew him. Tommy was a caring person he loved his wife and children so much and he was so proud of them.
I want to share a couple of things that Tommy did for me. I fell one night at an establishment in Ocala. They called 911 and who was driving the fire truck Tommy himself. When he got out of the fire truck he walked over to me and said Ms. Eva what are you sitting there on the ground for and I replied ah, Tommy I had no better place to sit. Tommy squatted down beside me and said what's going on with that wrist I replied I think I sprung it and Tommy said well I don't have P. H. D. behind my name but I would say you broke the damn thing. By that time the ambulance had arrived Tommy put me on the stretcher and place me in the ambulance. Tommy said I know your a diabetic and you have high blood pressure now tell me what else is wrong with you and I said to Tommy do you know this much about all the other people you pick up and Tommy said no just the special ones.
Another time I fell at home moving a chair and cut my head and the paramedics were called and when they arrived they told me I need stitches and my blood pressure was triple digits over triple digits and I need to go to the hospital. I had a family member take ;me to the hospital but on the way there I called Tommy and told him what my blood pressure was and that I was told I need stitches. I said Tommy do you think I need to go to the hospital. Tommy said to me how close are you to the hospital and I replied I'm right in front of the emergency room doors and he said get yourself in there and let them take care of you. There was other times that I called Tommy for his advice as to whether i should go to the hospital or could I do some thing else and not have to go to the hospital, Tommy always gave me good advice and I always followed his advice. He did many other things for my family.
I had the opportunity to go to one of Tommy's fights held in Jacksonville, Florida. The fight only lasted 72 SECONDS. Tommy jumped upon the fence surrounding the cage and threw a kiss to the audiences and said thank you for coming.
My thoughts and prayers are with all the family during this most difficult time in your life. My prayer is that God will give you comfort and peace in the days ahead and just remember to keep Tommy's memory alive within your heart and where ever you are he will be right there with you.
Remember God only takes the best for his master bouquet.so on March 23th. heaven received another angel.
I could talk all day and never be able to put into words how much Tommy was loved and cared for by so many people and how many lives he has touched in a very special way.
With Sincere Sympathy and Love,
Mrs. Eva Dick

I had the opportunity and honor to be Tommy’s wrestling coach at Lake Weir High School back in the 1980’s. He, without a doubt, was the best kid I ever coached. His enthusiasm for life and competitive drive was infectious for our entire wrestling program. I have so many fond memories of Tommy both on and off the wrestling mat. He was so loved and admired by all those who knew him. He will be sorely missed. My condolences go out to his family and close friends. God bless.
